Volatil — a necklace that exists only once
Handcrafted blown glass necklace made in Bogotá. Each Volatil piece is shaped without molds — the form will never repeat.
What is Volatil?
DEF.Volatil is a line of blown glass necklaces made by Musae in Bogotá — each piece shaped by hand without molds, making every form genuinely singular. The name reflects the nature of the work: these shapes are volatile, unrepeatable.
Unlike cast or molded jewelry, every Volatil necklace begins as molten glass that the artisan shapes through breath and gravity alone. The result is a form that can be closely related to a prior piece but never identical to it.
- ·01Each necklace is shaped individually — no molds, no replication
- ·02Glass is combined with 950 silver findings for structure and durability
- ·03The color palette shifts with light — translucent effects only glass can produce
- ·04Once a piece sells, that specific form will not be made again
How a Volatil necklace is made
DEF.Volatil necklaces are made through lampworking — a flameworking technique where glass rods are melted and shaped at high temperature using tools and breath.
The process requires precise heat control and years of practice. Each pendant goes through shaping, cooling, annealing (to relieve internal stress), and final assembly with silver components. From raw glass rod to finished piece: roughly four hours of studio work.
- ·01Glass rods are heated to 800–1000°C using a focused flame
- ·02The artisan shapes the molten glass using metal tools and controlled breath
- ·03Slow cooling (annealing) makes the glass significantly more durable
- ·04Silver findings are fitted and the necklace is assembled by hand
- ·05Final quality check before packaging — every piece inspected individually
How to care for your Volatil necklace
DEF.Blown glass is durable when properly annealed, but it is still glass — it will chip or crack under direct hard impact. Normal daily wear is fine.
With straightforward care, a Volatil necklace will last for years. The most common cause of damage is not fragility — it is storage: pieces knocking against each other or against harder materials.
- ·01Avoid direct hard impacts — knocking against stone, metal, or tile
- ·02Store separately or wrapped in soft cloth when not wearing
- ·03Remove before exercise, swimming, or sleeping
- ·04Clean with a dry soft cloth — no chemicals needed
- ·05The 950 silver can be polished with a standard silver cloth

01How much does a Volatil necklace cost?
Volatil necklaces are priced individually based on the complexity of the glass work and the silver components used. Prices typically range from COP 80,000 to COP 180,000. Each listing shows the exact price — browse the current available pieces in the jewelry section.
02Can I order a specific shape or color?
Because each piece is shaped without molds, exact replication is not possible. You can request a color family or general aesthetic direction for a custom commission, but the final form will be determined by the glass-blowing process itself. Custom orders are available — contact us through Instagram.
03Is blown glass fragile?
Properly annealed blown glass is significantly more durable than common decorative glass. Volatil necklaces go through a slow cooling process that relieves internal stress in the material. They are designed for regular wear — but like any glass, a direct hard impact can cause chipping or breakage.
04Does Musae ship internationally?
Currently Musae ships across Colombia. International shipping is not available through the online store yet. If you are outside Colombia and interested in a piece, reach out via Instagram @musaejoyeria — we occasionally arrange international shipping for specific pieces.
05What does 950 silver mean?
950 silver is an alloy that is 95% pure silver — higher purity than standard sterling (92.5%). It is softer and more workable by hand, which is why artisan jewelers prefer it. It may tarnish slightly with time, which is normal and easily polished with a standard silver cloth.
06What if my Volatil piece arrives damaged?
All Musae pieces are carefully packaged before shipping. If your necklace arrives damaged, contact us immediately via Instagram @musaejoyeria with photos of the packaging and the piece. We will assess the situation and find a resolution — our pieces are insured during transit.
07Is Volatil a limited collection or does Musae restock it?
Volatil is not a limited edition in the traditional sense — it is ongoing. However, because each piece is unique, there is no restocking individual pieces. When a specific Volatil necklace sells, that exact form is gone. New pieces are added to the shop regularly as they come out of the studio.
