What does sterling silver 925 and 950 mean?
DEF.Not all silver is the same. The difference between silver 925, 950 and rhodium affects purity, durability and piece value. At Musae we use both, depending on the type of jewelry.
Sterling silver 950 is the highest-purity standard we use in our artisan earrings and necklaces — 95% pure silver. Chains and accessories use sterling silver 925 (92.5% pure silver), the international standard for jewelry complements. Both are certified genuine silver, not plating.
- ·01Sterling silver 925: 92.5% pure silver + 7.5% metal alloy. International standard for chains and jewelry accessories.
- ·02Sterling silver 950: 95% pure silver — higher purity than the international standard. Used in Musae's artisan earrings and necklaces.
- ·03Rhodium: a platinum-group metal used as a plating over silver for higher shine and oxidation resistance. Some Musae chains use it as a finish.
- ·04Musae silver accessories include hoops, studs, short chains and tubes — all in sterling silver 925 or rhodium-plated. Over 20 styles available.

Pieces where blown glass and silver coexist in the same design — the purity of the metal complements the visual depth of the artisan glass.
01What does sterling silver 925 mean?
A sterling silver 925 chain is made with 92.5% pure silver. This alloy makes the silver more durable without affecting its appearance. It is the international standard for jewelry chains and accessories — genuinely silver, not silver-plated.
02What is the difference between silver 925 and silver 950?
Sterling silver 950 has higher purity: 95% pure silver, compared to 92.5% in silver 925. Both are genuine silver, but 950 is the higher-quality standard. At Musae, chains use silver 925, while artisan earrings and necklaces are made with sterling silver 950.
03Can I use a silver chain with Musae's blown glass charms?
Yes. Our sterling silver 925 chains are designed to complement blown glass charms and necklaces. The charm's bail is sized for most chain types in our collection. You can buy the charm and chain separately or look for sets that already include both.
04Is Musae silver hypoallergenic?
Sterling silver 925 and 950 is well tolerated by most people. However, it contains traces of copper and other metals that in very rare cases may cause a reaction. If you have a known metal allergy beyond pure gold, consult your doctor before wearing.
05How do I care for silver chains and earrings?
Store pieces in a dry place, ideally in the original Musae packaging or a tarnish-resistant bag. Polish with a soft cloth if it dulls. Avoid prolonged contact with salt water, perfumes and deodorants. If it tarnishes significantly, use a silver-specific polishing paste.
06Is rhodium silver the same as sterling silver 925?
No. Rhodium is a different metal — from the platinum group — used as plating over silver for higher shine and oxidation resistance. At Musae, some chains have a rhodium finish; the product description always states this clearly.
